Dr Verna Aykanat

Dr Verna Aykanat is a specialist anaesthetist with a busy private practice in Melbourne. She undertook her specialist training at St Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne, with subsequent fellowships at the Austin, Royal Perth and Alfred Hospitals.

Verna provides anaesthesia for a wide range of surgical specialties, with special interests in major abdominal surgery, including hepatobiliary and robotic surgery, and cancer reconstruction. In addition to her clinical work, Verna has undertaken research and clinical trials to improve patient care and outcomes during and after major surgery and was awarded the prestigious Gilbert Brown Prize by the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists. She provides postgraduate teaching on difficult airway management, is an active member of the Australian Society of Anaesthetists and recently completed a Master of Public Health at Monash University.
